Race Start

The half marathon starts at 11AM at the back of St. Aloysius College. However you must be present in the grounds of St. Aloysius College at 10:45AM for the race briefing and meet the race pacers.

Registration Times

Registration will be open at the following times:

Registration takes place in the gymnasium of St. Aloysius College, just follow the Registration signs to the gymnasium from the car park. Please follow marshall instructions at all times. We would urge all people who can register on Friday evening to please make the most of the opportunity and do so. We will have over 1000 athletes taking part in the half marathon this year and to help alleviate large queues on Saturday morning we are opening registration on Friday. If you cannot register on Friday please plan to arrive early on Saturday morning and get parked up and registered as quickly as you can.

Race Numbers

You will receive your race number and t-shirt at registration. Please note your timing chip is at the top of your race number. Be careful not to bend or fold your race number as it may damage the chip and you will end up not getting a finishing time.

Key Drop

We will have a key drop available again this year. Precise details to follow. Please note this is not a baggage drop area. They will not accept bags. Car keys only.


We have pacers for the following finish times: 1hr 25mins, 1hr 30mins, 1hr 35mins, 1hr 45mins, 1hr 50mins, 2:00 and 2:10 At the start please line up behind the pacer you wish to follow. They will be easily identified as they will be wearing a bright pink t-shirt with their finish time on and will have a balloon tied to them also with the finish time on it!! There will also be pace time signs indicating which area you should be in If you plan to run 2hrs please line up with the 2hr pacers. We have timing mats at the start and finish line so you will get gross (gun to finish mat) and net (mat to mat) times.

Water Stations

There will be water stations located at miles 3, 6, 9 and the finish line (see course map).

Drop Zones

We aim to leave Clonown the same way we found it so there will bins located after the water stations for you to throw empty water bottles into. Please dispose of all rubbish (water bottles / gel wrappers, etc) in these areas only. Please do not litter the roads. Littering the roads of Clonown is not one of our goals!!


There will be toilets on the route in Clonown village (at 4 mile point) and at Kenny’s garage as you come onto old Ballinasloe Rd. (at 8 mile point). There will also be toilets available at Start/Finish area and in the grounds of St. Aloysius College near registration.


There are limited shower facilities available after the race in the gymnasium of St. Aloysius College. Athlone Springs Hotel have also offered the use of the ZEN Leisure centre after the race for participants. This has proved particularly popular with runners commuting that direction as well as availing of the Athlone Springs Hotel Race Special bar food menu. Athlone Springs Hotel have also offered the use of the ZEN Leisure centre after the race for participants.

Cut-off time

The cut-off time for competitors is 3hrs 30mins. This is a reasonable amount of time for racers to finish the race. Please remember there are marshalls at all junctions along the route who are giving up their time to help run the race. 3hrs 30mins is a long time for those people to be out there.

Distance Markers

There are distance markers at every kilometre and mile, so whether you work in old or new money we will help you to keep your pace


Yes the following categories will receive prizes:

  • first 3 men past the finish
  • first 3 women past the finish
  • first over 40 age category male
  • first over 40 age category female
  • first over 50 age category male
  • first over 50 age category female
  • first over 60 age category male
  • first over 60 age category female.

There is also €100 prize for course record, both male and female. Please note – you can only win one prize, so for example: if you finish first over 40 and 3rd overall, then you will receive the best available prize – over 40 first prize, then the prize for 3rd overall would then be handed on to 4th place finisher.
